I am a native English speaker from Canada – and I'm passionate about helping you use English to your best advantage.
About Me
I have lived and worked in other countries and know firsthand the challenges of actually SPEAKING a foreign language. Being able to read and write did not prepare me for having a real conversation. Finding the right teacher who insisted that I speak made all the difference. I can make a difference for you.

After earning a TEFL certificate (Teaching English as a Foreign Language), I had been teaching with on-line platforms and noticed an unfulfilled need that I could address. As an experienced business professional, I could see that many students needed help to prepare for interviews and presentations. They wanted a coach who could also improve their resumes, emails, letters and documents.
This was beyond the scope of their subscribed platforms, so I created Stepped-Up English to fill that need.
Together with my business experience, and Jim's writing background, we help you polish your skills so your English conversation and writing can reach an even higher level.
Our services are tailored for students who are already at an intermediate or advanced level in their English language studies.

Biography
Ruth brings over 25 years of business experience to her students. A former financial systems implementation specialist, she has business analysis and project management skills. She held 2 accounting designations: CMA Certified Management Accountant & CISA Certified Information Systems Auditor. On the IT side, she holds a Scrum Master certificate.

Once she started teaching regularly. Ruth was delighted to mentor professionals and students alike. She has consistently received top ratings, and attributes this to her business experience.

Because she willingly shares her business and life-experiences, students see Ruth as a consultant and an advisor, rather than just an English teacher.
Her boundless energy comes across just as well on video as it does in person. You can discuss anything – every topic is interesting to her.

Besides her love of travel, Ruth is an avid outdoors enthusiast, and loves to swim , ride her bikes and walks her dogs. Living in Canada means long winters, and Ruth spends a lot of time on skis.
Ruth and her husband have been together over 40 years and they have 2 adult daughters.
